As many already know, the best online Internet radio station is SomaFM.  This blog post will briefly show you how to play the SomaFM Internet radio stream on your PC.  Since I prefer VLC media player, I'm going to show you how to download VLC and easily play SomaFM with it.

VLC is completely free and it will run great on your computer for playing just about any type of video file.  If you're ready to begin, go ahead and watch the video below and in no time you will be playing any one of the 14 SomaFM radio shows on your computer.

Playing the SomaFM radio stream using VLC Media Player

Here's where you can download the VLC media player to play the SomaFM Internet radio streams while you are on the computer.  This great Internet radio player will can also play a massive amount of movie files and audio files.  It's always free to download and there is no trial version because it's freeware.  Install VLC and then attempt to play SomaFM again.

When you navigate to SomaFM you'll see a bunch of thumbnails which take you to the different SomaFM radio shows when clicked.  Decide which show you'd like to play (my favorite is Groove Salad) and click the thumbnail.  You'll be taken to another page and Windows Media Player will open up and start trying to play the radio stream.  Most likely, your download manager will open and you'll see a file with a .pls extension.  Right-hand click on that .pls file and select, "Open with..."   and then choose VLC from the list.
